A 2012 statewide survey of North Carolina’s early care and education workforce was conducted by the Child Care Services Association from September 2012 through February 2013, collecting data from center directors (18% of all programs), 2,608 teaching staff members, and 522 family child care providers (18% of that population). The survey used stratified random sampling across 14 Child Care Resource and Referral regions with weighted data to enable generalization to an estimated 32,500 teaching staff across 4,034 centers and 2,900 family child care programs serving children under six, building on 2011 and 2003 surveys to track changes in the ECE system over time.
