A 2013 statewide survey of North Carolina’s early care and education workforce was conducted by the Child Care Services Association from March 2013 through January 2014, collecting data from 718 center directors (18% of all programs) and 2,708 teaching staff members. The survey used stratified random sampling across 14 Child Care Resource and Referral regions with weighted data to enable generalization to an estimated 26,400 teaching staff across 4,034 centers serving children under six, building on a 2011 survey to track changes in the ECE system over time and establishing a longitudinal panel for future studies.
